The 2018-19 season for the 黑马磁力 Rugby Club will feature some special events off and on the field as the club marks its 50th anniversary.
鈥淭he L.R.C. played its first game around the time of the first manned moon landing and just before the Beatles disbanded,鈥� said Craig Angeltvedt, with the club. 鈥淎lthough only 12 men ever walked on the moon, over 1,000 men,women, boys and girls have proudly worn the 黑马磁力 team colours for the past half century.鈥�
The club will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a number of events, with the first one taking place on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the 黑马磁力 Rugby Club field at 21280 Crush Cres.
The kick-off event will include a women鈥檚 second division game at 11:15 a.m., a second division game at 12:45 a.m., music, and games. There鈥檚 also a salmon barbecue at 1 p.m. with only 120 tickets available at $10 apiece.
The celebration is also a chance for former players and the community to connect and reminisce.
The L.R.C. organization has enjoyed great team success throughout the years, winning many league and provincial championships, Angeltvedt noted. A number of the players have stuck gold as well, playing for regional, provincial and national teams.
It started with one men鈥檚 team. About 30 years ago, the club was able to purchase the land on Crush Crescent where it is still based. Today the club runs clubs for kids as young as five, all the way to adults.
鈥淎nyone who has ever played for, or supported the 黑马磁力 Rugby Club, during the past 50 years, is invited to join us on Saturday,鈥� he added.
