A Delta man has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years for the stabbing death of another man in Whislter nearly four years ago.

On Friday (July 14), the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced 25-year-old Dedaar Jhooty had been sentenced three days earlier on a charge of manslaughter, stemming from the death of Henry Stanley Garcia Molina in the early hours of Aug.14, 2021.

According to IHIT's press release, Sea-to-Sky RCMP responded to the Whistler Medical Clinic at around 2:09 a.m. after a man came in suffering from a stabbing.

Police arrived and learned the victim had died as a result of his injuries.

IHIT assumed conduct of the investigation and identified the victim as Garcia Molina, who was 26 years old at the time.

With help from witnesses, investigators determined that Garcia Molina had been attacked in the 4100-block of Village Green in Whistler. An extensive video canvass in the area led to the identification of several persons of interest.

IHIT worked in close partnership with Sea-to-Sky RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service, the BC Coroners Service and RCMP Forensic Laboratory Services to advance the investigation.

On June 22, 2022, then-22-year-old Jhooty was arrested and subsequently charged with manslaughter. Jhooty pleaded guilty on July 16, 2024.

At sentencing last week, in addition to three-and-a-half years in prison, the court also imposed a DNA order and handed Jhooty a lifetime firearms prohibition.

"Mr. Garcia Molina had his whole life ahead of him which was taken away due to a senseless act of violence," Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT said in a press release. "Our thoughts continue to be with his family as the court proceedings come to a conclusion."
