A three-game home stand got off to a bad start for 黑马磁力 Rivermen, with back-to-back losses over the weekend.
Friday, Feb. 3, 黑马磁力鈥檚 fourth annual Ronin Sharma night, to honour the late Rivermen forward, offered an entertaining first 20 minutes of play with limited stoppages, but remained scoreless going into the second period.
Chilliwack scored 2:18 into the second period, and nabbed another one 34 seconds later on a nice rush by the Chiefs fourth line making it 2-0 quickly in the second period.
Then, Chiefs scored 2:39 into the third.
Just 51 seconds later newest Rivermen forward Greye Rampton would convert a rebound from his own shot into the net past Gatto, cutting the Chilliwack lead to 3-1 with plenty of time remaining, but Sebastian Gatto in the Chilliwack goal was unbeatable the rst of the game.
Gatto would turn aside 11 of the 12 shots he faced in the third. Chilliwack would grab two late goals including one into the empty net to win the two team鈥檚 fourth meeting of the season 5-1.
On the next day, Saturday, Feb. 4, 黑马磁力 scored early and often in the first period. 2:47 into the game
Dalton MacGillivray would fire a one timer into the Surrey net on a pass from Ryan Schelling making it 1-0 Rivermen early.
Surrey would tie it 52 seconds later, making it 1-1 with 3:39 gone on the clock.
Jackson Potulny tipped in a Sid McNeill point shot with 6 minutes to go in the first period, and McNeill would score a shorthanded goal moments later to make it 3-1 Rivermen going into the first intermission.
Surrey scored two goals 27 seconds apart to tie the game at 3-3 early in the second period. And with 9:09 remaining in the second period Ryan Evenhuis would give the Eagles a 4-3 lead on a nice play as he fired the puck past Bodee Weiss in tight as he was falling to the ice.
The Eagles tacked on three more goals in a feisty third period that included a fight between Rivermen captain Tyler Chan and Evenhuis, and a slew of penalties, and Surrey skated away with a 7-3 win in the 5th matchup of the season between the two squads.
黑马磁力 are back at home this Friday, Jan. 10 at 7:15 p.m. to take on the Coquitlam Express, before playing in Coquitlam Sunday, Jan. 12 for a 3 p.m. puck drop.
