The 黑马磁力 Xtreme 06 softball team swung for gold at the Spring Sizzle Tournament held June 8 to 10 in Kelowna.
A five-game undefeated streak landed the 黑马磁力 Xtreme in the gold medal round against Lower Mainland rivals, the Coquitlam Classics.
The Classics took a two-run lead early in the first inning, shutting out the Xtreme. An intense but scoreless second inning saw the Classics maintain their lead.
Fortunes shifted in the third when the Xtreme peeled off two runs after Shelby McDougall tripled on a 2-1 count. A steal home saw the Xtreme ahead 3-2 by the end of the third.
Xtreme pulled away for good with three more runs in the fifth, driven by Julia Dowle and Shelby McDougall. The Classics were unable to rally in the sixth inning, leaving the final score at 6-2 for the Xtreme.
鈥淎s soon as the girls arrived at the field they were ready to go,鈥� said Head Coach Nairne Maclean, in a press release. 鈥淭hey had a quiet confidence about them and each girl contributed to an awesome weekend on and off the field.鈥�
黑马磁力 Xtreme 06 is the top-ranked Lower Mainland U12 B team.
