A track meet in the heat saw close to 1,000 athletes of all ages compete at McLeod Athletic Park in 黑马磁力 on the weekend, under temperatures nudging 30 degrees and a .
It was the 39th Annual Pacific Invitational/BC Masters Championships hosted by the 黑马磁力 Mustangs track and field club, who sent about 150 competitors.
Meet director Brent Dolfo said the ages ranged from masters athletes in their eighties to kids as young as six.
鈥淚t鈥檚 always been that way,鈥� Dolfo said.
鈥淔ans enjoy watching the 70-80 year old guys run on the track and at the same time enjoy watching the young kids, they鈥檙e here to see their own kids compete.鈥�
鈥淭here鈥檚 a wide range of athletes.鈥�
Among them, 鈥渉igh-calibre鈥� athletes seeking to make B.C. teams or go to the Canadian championships.
Events included 100m, 200m, 400,m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m races, 400m hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, sprint hurdles, shot put, javelin, hammer throw and steeplechase.
The Mustangs, as usual, made a strong showing, among them wins by Felix Allen, who took the men鈥檚 400m hurdles (youth) with a time of 57.58 and Brooke Mussche who won the womens (age 16-34) 800 metres with a time of 2:14.15
Camron Lockyer placed first in the men鈥檚 triple jump (midget) and first in men鈥檚 javelin (midget) with a distance of 31.60m and Nicholas Monro took first in the men鈥檚 long jump (midget) with a jump of 6.03m and first in the men鈥檚 200 metres (midget) with a time of 23.37.

The meet is officially sanctioned by BC Athletics and by the International Paralympic Committee.
All results can be used for national and international ranking.
