A White Rock shooting that left the garage door of a Pacific Avenue home riddled with bullet holes this week is believed to be connected to extortion, police have confirmed.
White Rock RCMP are now asking anyone with information to call police in the incident that happened in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Aug. 27.
A neighbour told Peace Arch News he heard what "sounded like machine gun fire" at around 3:20 a.m. and that police were on the scene of a home in the 15500-block of Pacific "for the day."
"They marked the bullet (holes) on the garage door and examined the crime scene and have been talking to neighbours looking for video footage," the neighbour said.
Const. Chantal Sears confirmed Friday morning (Aug. 29) that a shooting investigation is underway.
On Friday afternoon, a White Rock RCMP press release said police received a "delayed report" of shots fired at the residence and, on arrival, located evidence "consistent with a shooting." No injuries were reported.
The Lower Mainland Integrated Forensic Identification Services was called out to the scene, the release notes.
Through canvassing the neighbourhood, police determined that the shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 27, between 3:15 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Investigators are conducting additional canvassing for video surveillance and speaking with witnesses.
Based on initial information, this is believed to be a targeted incident related to extortion.
White Rock RCMP is liaising with investigators from the Lower Mainland Joint Force Operation (JFO) as well as the RCMP , to determine if there is any connection to other ongoing investigations.
It's not the first time a White Rock location has been the subject of an extortion-related shooting.
In 2023, in a White Rock neighbourhood to a series of extortion threats impacting businesses across the Lower Mainland.
More recently, a Surrey business in the 12800-bock of 80 Avenue was . Police responding on Monday (Aug. 25) to a report of a possible mischief or attempted break-in to a business discovered damage to the door of the business was the result of several shots being fired from outside.
That was the most recent in a series of extortion-related shootings that have happened in Surrey over recent weeks – including the , a Newton-area establishment owned by Bollywood star Kapil Sharma.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the Pacific Avenue incident, or who may have dashcam or security video from the area between 3:15 a.m. to 3:30 a.m., to contact White Rock RCMP at (778) 545-4800.
