The Vancouver Rise FC Academy fell to the Washington Spirit on Wednesday (Sept. 3). 

The Washington Spirit defeated the Rise FC Academy 4-0 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., in its first match in the group stage of the Concacaf Women's Champions Cup. 

This is the first time that the Vancouver Rise FC Academy has participated in this competition, a spokesperson for the Rise FC Academy said. 

The Rise FC Academy held possession 15 per cent of the match and took one shot, one of which was on goal, while the Spirit took 26 shots, 10 of which were on goal. 

The Spirit's Tara McKeown scored the first goal of the match in the 31st minute, followed by Heather Stainbrook in the 41st, Trinity Rodman in the 45th and Deborah Abiodun in the 81st. 

The Rise FC Academy's next match is at home on Sept. 16 at Swangard Stadium as they face off against Gotham FC for the second match of the group stage of the Women’s Champions Cup. 

Vancouver Rise FC Academy, formerly known as , is a full-time development program that has a "standardized national curriculum" for U15-U18 female players that feeds into Canada Soccer's women's national EXCEL program.
