Metro Vancouver Transit Police have arrested a suspect after a man was injured in an unprovoked attack while on board a bus in Vancouver.

A man was on a bus in Vancouver around noon on July 17 when he was allegedly punched in the face by a man he did not know, according to a news release Monday (July 28) from transit police. The suspect had sat down next to the man and then stood up, hit the man and left the bus.

The victim sustained serious injury to their face, but were treated at the hospital.

The incident prompted an investigation from transit police who determined the suspect had also been involved in a mischief file several days earlier involving damage to an electronic advertisement board.

Police were able to use CCTV cameras to help police find him.

The suspect has since been released from custody under several conditions pending his first court appearance.

Transit police said they will be recommending charges of mischief under $5,000 and assault causing bodily harm to Crown counsel.
