The Fraser Valley Regional District is asking everyone in the Cultus Lake area to refrain from using water or flushing, as of Thursday (July 10).

"During this time, please refrain from using water or flushing your toilet unless it is an emergency."

The request went out "effectively immediately" to lake residents and the surrounding communities after the water system at the lake suffered a "sewer main break," according to FVRD officials on.

"Earlier today the Cultus Lake Water and Sewer System experienced a sewer main break.

"This caused an electrical issue at the water pump house.

"The FVRD will provide updates on social media and our website as they become available. Thank you for your cooperation during this time."
