Riders who currently top the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association鈥檚 (CPRA) are competing at the Valley West Stampede (VWS) this weekend in the 黑马磁力 Riders Society鈥檚 rodeo arena.
Day one was a huge success and almost sold out, said VWS president Sheila Hicks.
The day saw the top six riders in the world compete including Zeke Thurston, Cody Lamb, and Dawson Hay, among others.
鈥淚t鈥檚 really exciting to have this level of competitors here, as well as the Duane Kesler Rough Stock 鈥 they鈥檙e the best four-legged athletes out there,鈥 Hicks said.
Riders from Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and even Australia are competing in four events each day this weekend at the stampede starting at 2 p.m. 鈥 Saturday, Sunday, and Labour Day Monday.
As the event is CPRA-sanctioned, riders will also be able to collect points towards their year-end total.
For tomorrow鈥檚 event, Hicks said the hopes to see everyone come out and have a good time.
鈥淚f you鈥檝e never been to a rodeo, that鈥檚 okay we鈥檒l show you how we do it, we鈥檒l teach you, and that鈥檚 how we grow this sport,鈥 she enthused.
Gates open at 11 a.m., and there are food trucks, a beer garden, and live entertainment following the rodeo competition.
Tickets are $25 for adults per day, and $10 for those 12 years old and younger. Parking is free at the George Preston Recreation Centre. Tickets are available online at .
