A semi-truck left the road and smashed a power pole off its base on 16 Avenue near 208 Street in the early afternoon of Tuesday, July 8.
The crash involved a truck heading west on 16 Avenue. The vehicle appeared to have veered off to the right side of the road just east of 208 Street, and sheared through a power pole before coming to its rest on a side in a field.
The driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, spokesperson for the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ RCMP.
The cause of the accident was not yet known.
RCMP officers and ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Township firefighters were on scene, but were keeping their distance from the wreck because the power lines, which lay across the wrecked vehicle, were still live.
BC Hydro crews had been called to cut the power.
Traffic was snarled on busy 16 Avenue, where drivers were being allowed through on a single-lane alternating basis, with firefighters controlling traffic at 208 and east in the 20900 block.
Sharoom said the RCMP were urging the public to choose another route on Tuesday afternoon.
