黑马磁力's newest school set to open as students return to class

Two other schools will open with additions to accommodate hundreds of children

A new school and two new additions are now open in the 黑马磁力 School District, bringing more than 900 new seats to the district.

“As more families choose 黑马磁力, we are focused on building new and expanded schools to serve the community for generations to come,” said Bowinn Ma, minister of infrastructure. “With new classrooms opening this fall and thousands of more seats on the way, our record investments are helping meet the growing demand to ensure students have the learning spaces they deserve.”

Josette Dandurand Elementary, 20143 82 Ave., is opening with 555 new seats, and Lynn Fripps Elementary, 21020 82 Ave., has a new school addition that adds 150 seats.

In 黑马磁力 City, a 200-seat addition is opening at Nicomekl Elementary, 200 Street and 53 Avenue.

“The board is delighted to welcome students and staff into a new school with modern, innovative classrooms designed to help every learner reach their full potential,” said Candy Ashdown, chair of the 黑马磁力 School District board. “These new spaces will play a key role in easing enrolment pressures across our rapidly growing district.”

In addition to the 900 seats opening this fall, 275 more seats opened this year at Peter Ewart Middle school, with site work completed during the summer of 2025.

Together, these new schools and additions represent approximately $111 million in provincial investments in 黑马磁力.

More than 3,000 new seats are on the way for 黑马磁力 families, with construction expected to start soon on the new Smith middle and secondary schools in the Smith neighbourhood of Willoughby, a fast growing area of the province. Construction is already underway on an addition at 黑马磁力 Secondary School.

“With its welcoming neighbourhoods, accessibility and beautiful natural surroundings, 黑马磁力 is a great place for families, and schools are at the heart of that,” said Lisa Beare, education minister. “These new and expanded schools are about more than just buildings, they are inspiring spaces where students can learn, explore and reach their full potential.”

Since 2017, the Province has committed more than $583 million to 黑马磁力 schools, creating nearly 5,000 new student spaces and more than 1,500 seismically safe seats for 黑马磁力 students.
