ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦-Walnut Grove MLA Misty Van Popta said she was temporarily closing her constituency office after someone threw an explosive device at the office of cabinet minister Bowinn Ma on Friday morning.

Ma is the minister of Infrastructure in the NDP cabinet, and Van Popta is the Conservative critic for the same ministry.

"Early this morning, Infrastructure Minister Bowinn Ma’s office had a very serious security incident," Van Popta wrote on Facebook Friday. "I have talked to her directly and sent her my thoughts. Thankfully it was closed at the time, and nobody was on site or injured."

"MLAs were alerted prior to the public this morning and many of us have made the decision to keep our office closed today," Van Popta continued. "I have made that decision as well."

Other local MLAs, ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦-Abbotsford's Harman Bhangu and ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦-Willowbrook's Jody Toor, have not posted about closing their offices as of 1 p.m. on Friday.

Politicians of all stripes were quick to condemn whomever did this.

This is absolutely terrible and appalling. I condemn this cowardice and stand with Minister Ma and all MLAs in light of this incident.
Nobody should fear doing their job, including our staff in their places of work.
Thankful for the RCMP, the Sargeant-at-Arms and Legislature…
