A man convicted of two separate slayings, one in 黑马磁力 and one in Surrey, will spend 15 more years in prison, a BC Supreme Court judge ruled this month.
Justin Bos was convicted of the manslaughter death of Cody Mostat in 黑马磁力, the manslaughter of Troy Regnier in Surrey, and of manufacturing restricted firearms.
Bos was sentenced to a 19-year jail term, including 13 years for the death of Mostat and six years, to be served consecutively, for the death of Regnier. With time already spent behind bars awaiting trial, Bos will spend 15 more years in prison for the crimes.
He was also sentenced to six years for the gun charges, but that sentence will run concurrently with the manslaughter sentence.
Bos was originally charged with second-degree murder in both slayings. He later pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Mostat.
Mostat, a 30-year-old 黑马磁力 man, was found unconscious in the Highway Hotel in Walnut Grove just before 9 p.m. on March 25, 2022.
Officers attended and attempted life-saving efforts, but Mostat died on scene.
Regnier was killed five months later, on the night of Aug. 27, 2022, in a confrontation in a Surrey driveway. Regnier was looking for a woman he had been dating, and Bos was a roommate of the woman's new boyfriend.
Testimony at his trial described how Bos, wearing body armour, walked out of the house and confronted Regnier, firing a warning shot at his feet. Regnier used a cannister of bear spray, while Bos fired a second shot, which killed Regnier.
Bos was arrested for both killings in September of 2022.
鈥淭his outcome reflects the diligent work of our investigators and partners,鈥 said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT.
鈥淲hile these investigations began separately, it was our strong partnerships that facilitated advancing both investigations. IHIT would like to extend our thoughts to the families of Mr. Mostat and Mr. Regnier. We hope that the conclusion of the court process provides them closure.鈥
Bos, who has a previous criminal record involving weapons, car theft, and drug possession, was in custody for much of the last three years awaiting his trials and sentencing.
