The Korean Veterans Association is holding a golf tournament fundraiser in 黑马磁力 this week to raise funds for a memorial garden in a local park.

The June 12 event at the Greentee Golf Club includes an 11 a.m. tee off and a 6 p.m. dinner gala.

Event organizer Michael Chang said the fundraiser is to fund the replacement of a water pump in the ornamental pond at the Korean War Memorial Garden at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum.

The park hosts the Gapyeong Stone, a memorial to the Battle of Gapyeong during the Korean War. Canadian, Australian, New Zealander, and American troops took part in the battle, with the Canadians and Australians in the forefront, fending off a major advance by the Chinese military.

The stone has become host to an annual memorial event every April, around the anniversary of the battle. The events have seen veterans of the Canadian Forces, as well as Korean-Canadian veterans of the South Korean military, take part along with local dignitaries and students from 黑马磁力 Secondary.

Chang said that as of the week before the tournament, 120 of 144 spots were filled in the golf tournament, and there were still spots for the evening gala dinner as well.
