The 264 Street highway interchange again had the highest rate of crashes of any intersection in 黑马磁力 in 2024, according to recently released ICBC statistics.
There were 440 crashes there last year, of which 182 were listed as "casualty" crashes, with at least one person being injured or killed.
The top five worst intersections for crashes included most of the busiest roads in 黑马磁力:
1) 264 Street interchange, including on- and offramps: 440 crashes
2) 200 Street highway interchange, including on- and offramps to 88 Avenue: 292 crashes
3) 232 Street interchange, including on- and offramps: 234 crashes
4) Fraser Highway and the 黑马磁力 Bypass: 111 crashes
5) 216 Street at Crush Crescent and Glover Road: 108 crashes
黑马磁力's crash totals for its worst intersections are notably among the worst in the province.
For example, the worst intersection for crashes in Vancouver, at Knight Street and South East Marine Drive, had 352 collisions in 2024. Surrey's worst was at the Port Mann Bridge, with 177.
Abbotsford's highest-crash location is the Clearbrook Road highway interchange with 199 collisions, fewer than half the number seen at 264 Street in 黑马磁力.
The 264 Street interchange is one of the oldest in the Lower Mainland, and until recent highway expansion work began, still had its 1960s-era cloverleaf pattern, which saw cars merging onto and off the highway travel together over a single stretch of road.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Transportation and Transit put in place some major traffic pattern changes at the interchange, including closing two of the loop ramps permanently. The switch will allow work on rebuilding the interchange as the highway is widened heading east toward Abbotsford.
