Hope wildfire estimated at 0.6 hectares still out of control

Fire was discovered at Serpent's Back Trail on July 2

The Serpent's Back Trail wildfire in Hope still remains out of control as of 7:57 a.m. on Friday (July 4).

The blaze, which was discovered late Wednesday night (July 2) at the back of the Silver Creek Travel Centre, remains 0.6 hectares in size.

As of Thursday (July 3), 10 B.C. Wildfire Service firefighters are currently on scene, assisting Hope firefighters. Air support is also active with helicopters conducting water bucketing operations.

Both the District of Hope and the Hope Mountain Centre for Outdoor Learning are advising residents and visiting hikers to avoid the area. It is suspected that the fire was human-caused. No alerts or evacuations have been ordered yet.

According to B.C. Wildfire Service, an out-of-control wildfire means it is either spreading or anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter or control line.
