Work on the $25.9 million Fraser Highway widening project between the 24300 and 24600 blocks is "progressing well,' a Township update said.
Crews began paving the north side of the road at the end of June with flaggers directing traffic.
An unsigned Township response to a 黑马磁力 query noted the project will widen Fraser Highway to 4 lanes and includes curb and gutter, raised median, multi-use paths for pedestrians and bicycles on both sides, street lighting, repaving "and associated utility works."
"Substantial" completion is tentatively set for Spring 2026.completed by the spring of 2026, a TOL online page said.
黑马磁力 Township would like to see all the highway widened in the next five years.
In 2023, council unanimously voted for a motion by Mayor Eric Woodward that called for the completion of widening work on Fraser Highway, noting there are two-lane sections remaining "that do not have adequate capacity to meet current and future demands for the movement of people, goods, and services and [do] not adequately accommodate other modes of active transportation, such as transit, walking, and cycling."
It also described the costs for improving the remaining sections of Fraser Highway as 鈥減rohibitive鈥 for the Township, given current levels of cost sharing.
Township staff were directed to update the plans and requirements needed to complete Fraser Highway from 232nd Street as far east as 264th Street by 2030, including financial support from TransLink, the provincial government, and 鈥渆xtraordinary land use conversions.鈥
Up to $200,000 from existing budgets was authorized to complete designs and detailed construction estimates for widening the next segments of the highway 鈥 between 23400 block and 24300 blocks, west of the current project, and east between the 25000 block and 264th Street in Aldergrove.
Township was looking for a 50/50 cost share split between TransLink and the municipality.
