Cars and trucks with boxes of papers awaiting disposal lined up at the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Seniors Resources Society centre, as the facility hosted its annual Community Shredding Event in the LSRS parking lot at 20605 51b Ave.on May 24.
It is believed to be the biggest shred-it event in ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦, safely disposing of sensitive documents like old tax returns, bank statements, and other important papers.
By the end of the three-hour shredathon, 312 vehicles had gone through and more than $6,000 had been raised.
Kate Ludlam, the executive director of the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Senior Resources Society, said the annual by-donation event is a significant fundraiser for the centre.
"We do this every year," Ludlam commented. "It's an all hands-on deck [event] for our team and our volunteers."
"We were up here pretty early setting up," Ludlam said. "I think our first volunteers were here at about 7, 7:30 a.m.
This year, volunteers included players from ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Rivermen, ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Thunder and ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Rams teams, who handled all the heavy lifting as documents were unloaded and fed into an shredding truck.
