The number show how big of an event Community Day will be in ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ City on Saturday, June 14 – 45 community booths, 24 food truck, 19 market vendors, and 12 sponsor booths.
It’s shaping up to be on of the most diverse vendor groups to date for Community Day in Douglas Park. The event kicks off summer and includes activity stations, live performances, food trucks, marketplace, community booths, and more.
"Community Day is a valued ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ City tradition that brings people together to celebrate what makes our city special. This year’s event is especially meaningful to me as we mark our 70th anniversary, a milestone that reflects the pride we share in our city’s history, growth, and strong sense of community," said Mayor Nathan Pachal.
The event starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 7 p.m.
A key feature is the area of community booths. People can learn about local groups for all ages and the work of community agencies. Plus lots of booths have swag or activities. The community booth section will only be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
A highlight is the Firefighter Challenge. It will take place on Douglas Crescent and runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Kids can try spraying a fire hose.
There's new attractions this year.
Science World on the Road will host two live shows – from 1 to 1:45 p.m. and again from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.
People, depending on meeting age, weight, and height restrictions, can buy a ride on a Zip Line. They can soar along Douglas Crescent for 280 feet, finishing near 206 Street. The line is up to 36 feet off the ground.
Kids can check out all of the free kids activity zones located throughout the event site, and featuring a variety of interactive games and inflatables. (Plans may have to change if there's inclement weather.)
On stage
Starting at 11 a.m., No Sweet Carolines with their duelling pianos features vocalists and songwriters D’arcy Han and Kristin Fung.
At 12:20 p.m. Trilojay takes over with dance music.
The official welcome by mayor and council will be at 1:25 p.m.
Starting at 1:40 p.m. Silver Country Dancers get the crowd moving.
The Country Cuties Dance Team takes to the stage at 1:55 p.m.
Best Night Event performs at 2:30 p.m. The band offers a blend of alt-pop and progressive soul.
The country dance teams return for performances at 2:55 and 3:25 p.m.
At 4:40 p.m. it's the Dave Hartney Band with a mix of '90s and classic rock as well as modern guitar-slinging country superstars.
Fleetwood Magic brings a tribute show to the Spirit Square stage starting at 6:10 p.m.
The beer garden will offer beer but also cider, hard ice teas, and seltzers. Admission is for those 19 and older.
"Community Day is a vibrant, all-ages celebration that brings the community together to make connections, while learning about local resources in a fun and welcoming atmosphere noted Tera Edell, city recreation supervisor.
Parking will be an issue as large crowds attend Community Day so people are encouraged to find other methods of transport to get there. Parking is available at Douglas Park Community School for $5 (a fundraiser) and at the Timms Community Centre.
ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ City offers free Bike Valet services at the Community Day festival. The bike valet service provides a safe a secure location to store a bicycle or mobility device.
A bike valet is a coat check for bikes and other mobility devices such as scooters, skateboards, and strollers. Customers drop off their ride, and the valet staff provide them with a valet ticket and park it for them in a secure area that is monitored by City staff and volunteers at all times. When customers return for their ride they provide the valet staff with their valet ticket, and the staff retrieve it and provide the ride to the customer.
The bike valet will be located in the Douglas Park pickleball courts, and the service is available between 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Roads around the site will be closed 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
