Aldergrove bottle drive supports kids’ school snacks program

3rd annual Wiggins bottle drive raises funds for Township firefighter charity

Wiggins Group Realty’s third annual bottle drive will help feed local students.

The event will take place on Monday, September 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Aldergrove Branch 265.

The fundraiser is organized by Denise and Ian Wiggins, longtime Aldergrove residents of more than 16 years, to collect refundable containers to support the Township of Firefighters Charitable Society School Snack Program.

The program provides healthy snacks to local students who need them, helping kids stay focused, learn better, and thrive in the classroom.

Denise said even something as small as a bottle deposit can make a big difference when it comes to improving nutrition for children.

Last year’s drive raised nearly $1,800, and the couple is hoping to top that total this year through bottle, can, and cash donations.

The idea for the drive started with Wiggins’ wish to give back to her community in a simple but meaningful way.

Along with collecting donations, Township firefighters will bring a fire truck for kids to explore.

Denise said she continues to be amazed by the generosity of local residents and businesses who come together to make it possible.

The Wiggins’ own children will be lending a hand, too, carrying on the tradition since the first drive and learning the value of giving back.

“It’s really important to us to demonstrate giving back to the community, because those are the values we want to instill in our kids,” said Denise.

Residents are encouraged to bring their bottles, cans, or cash, to help make this year’s drive the biggest yet.

Containers can also be dropped off at any return depot year-round using Wiggins’ QR code on the Wiggins Group Real Estate’s Facebook page to ensure the donation goes directly to this fundraiser.
