Bake A Difference: Giving to charity has never tasted this good

I鈥檓 not much of a baker, but I definitely appreciate baked goods.

What I admire even more, though, is the efforts of the Duolynx Design & Print team in Walnut Grove, and what they鈥檙e doing today (Thursday, Sept. 15) to fundraise for AIDS.

They鈥檙e hosting the second annual Bake A Difference event with money specifically earmarked to the AIDS Walk in Vancouver.

A number of folks, including some local personalities, bake 鈥渟pectacular鈥 desserts that are then auctioned off on Duolynx鈥檚 Facebook 鈥 on the hour 鈥 throughout the day.

That includes two dozen butter tarts coming from Rich Coleman, five dozen flower shaped stuffed Thai dumplings coming from chef Parinya Loptson at Ban Chok Dee, chef Angie Quaale 鈥 owner of Well Seasoned 鈥 is offering up her bacon chocolate chunk cookies, and Vancouver radio personality Jennifer Thompson puts her 鈥渇amous鈥 cheesecake on the block 鈥 to name a few, said organizer Katy Mayrs.

Otter-Coop has donated one fresh baked pie a week for a year, JD Turkey Farms has donated a dozen four-inch turkey pot pies, and Adrian Beaty 鈥 formerly of Seasonal 56 鈥 is creating a lard crusted apple pie.

Last year they raised $4,000 with Bake A Difference, and they鈥檙e hoping to top that, this time around.

So, how does it work?

If you want to bid online, then keep connected to their Facebook throughout the day (9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at .

The 鈥榖aking wars鈥 are fun and winning bidders get the treats and the satisfaction of knowing they鈥檙e helping a good cause.

But if you鈥檙e not on Facebook (and I know there are a few of you out there), no problem.

They鈥檙e also holding a gigantic bake sale in store that day, with all sorts of cakes, pies, eclairs, cinnamon buns, cookies, cheesecakes, etc. for sale on the spot.

As Mayrs says, 鈥淕iving to charity never tasted so good.鈥
