It was a scary ride over the Port Mann Bridge earlier this week as a driver was pushing on with just three tires and a battered front end.
The video clip, posted to social media, shows a dark-coloured sedan attempting to drive with one completely wrecked tire that did not appear to even be rotating.
Many bridges have signs advising drivers to deal with fender benders and such once off the bridge, but RCMP Cpl. Michael Halskov said there was 鈥渕ore going on here.鈥�
鈥淚t looks like this car has been involved in a collision鈥� the wheel鈥檚 not even turning,鈥� he told Black Press Media by phone Thursday.
鈥淚t鈥檚 very unsafe to be driving a car in that condition.鈥�
The front end of the vehicle looks heavily damaged, Halskov noted, and it was being driven quickly in the fast lane.
鈥淲hat if something breaks and comes off the car in front of somebody?鈥�
While not familiar with the car in question, Halskov said it looks like it could have driven away from a collision or the driver could have been impaired.
Halskov said the line between driving to the end of a bridge after a collision and staying on depends on the state of your car.
鈥淚f one is driving in a vehicle on the bridge deck with just a blown tire, it鈥檚 very unsafe to stop on a bridge,鈥� he said.
鈥淏ut if it鈥檚 an emergency [like this], it鈥檚 an emergency.鈥�
If the car can鈥檛 keep going, Halskov recommends attempting to get over to the left side of the lanes, putting on hazard lights and calling for help. That can include calling first responders, who can show up faster than a tow truck and help block traffic and keep the driver safe.
