VIDEO: Good ice and new rocks: why B.C. champions practiced at 黑马磁力 Curling Centre

2023 B.C. silver medalist Nick Meister is 黑马磁力鈥檚 icemaker

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, Team Grandy, the B.C. champions, were wrapping up their last day of practice at the 黑马磁力 Curling Centre (LCC) before the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Curling Championships.

Club manager Robyn Parkes explained the 黑马磁力 Curling Centre was a good place to prepare for the Canadian championships.

鈥淲e have the newest rocks and good ice,鈥 Parkes told the 黑马磁力.

鈥淚t鈥檚 sort of the closest they can get to the arena [in Kamloops].鈥

Skip Clancy Grandy said the 黑马磁力 rink was recommended to the team by ice technician Mike Merklinger, who will be preparing the ice at the Scotties.

鈥淭he conditions are really, really good here [in 黑马磁力], very similar to what we鈥檒l be seeing at the Scotties, so it鈥檚 good preparation for us,鈥 Grandy commented.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been a really good training camp,鈥 Grandy added.

鈥淓verybody鈥檚 feeling kind of ready to go and ready to hit the ice rolling.鈥

Team Gauthier, the B.C. men鈥檚 champions, were also training on the 黑马磁力 club鈥檚 ice earlier in the week, as they prepared for the Brier.

Parkes credited 黑马磁力 club icemaker, Nick Meister, a champion curler who was a member of Team Pierce, which finished second at the 2023 BC Men鈥檚 championship won by Team Gauthier in January.

Meister prepared the ice for both Team Grandy and Team Gauthier, Parkes said.

鈥淗ew has been handling the ice for them, and very happy to do it,鈥 Parkes remarked.
