UFV Cascades women鈥檚 basketball sign trio of recruits for 2024-25

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women鈥檚 basketball have announced the addition of three new players for the 2024-25 season.

Chilliwack鈥檚 Miah Schuurman, 黑马磁力鈥檚 Kyanna Knodel and Burnaby鈥檚 Ankita Chopra have all signed on with the club.

鈥淲ith these three we have taken a big step in solidifying our programs future success on and off the court,鈥 stated UFV head coach Al Tuchscherer.

Tuchscherer said this trio keeps the competitive spirit of Cascades basketball alive and added that he believes that this is one of the more athletic recruiting classes the school has ever had.

Schuurman, a 5-11 guard/forward, has started for Chilliwack鈥檚 Unity Christian since grade 10. She has helped lead the team to back-to-back second place finishes at the 1A provincial championships, while also being named the tournament鈥檚 Most Outstanding Defensive Player both years. She played club with Port Coquitlam鈥檚 Excel Basketball.

Knodel, a 6-foot small forward, has been a starter since her Grade 11 season with the Walnut Grove Gators, where she helped the team reach the 2023 4A provincial championship final, and was named a second team all-star.

Chopra, a 5-8 guard, was a second team all-star at provincials in 2022, and a first team all-star in 2023, Chopra helped guide the Burnaby Central Wildcats to a third place finish at the 2023 4A provincial championships.

The men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams next home game occurs on Feb. 9, when the TWU Spartans come to Abbotsford.
