The largest cycling event in the Fraser Valley, 黑马磁力's GranFondo on Sunday, June 8, will offer a course with "just enough hills," an online advisory from organizers stated.
It was expected to attract people from across B.C., Canada, Europe and the United States, as well as Pacific Rim countries.
As always, there is a variety of race distances to cater to all skill levels and cycling enthusiasts, ranging from the longest, the 120km GranFondo with some rolling hills and steady climbs, the scenic 85km MedioFondo, or a more leisurely paced 50km PrestoFondo.
For families and beginners, the 20km FamilyFondo provides an introduction to the sport, a ride through Fort 黑马磁力 that is relatively flat. Riders will be guided from Eagle Acres Dairy Farm, around Fort 黑马磁力 and back to the farm.
As of Monday, there were still spots available in the 50 km and 20 km events, but the 85 and 120 GranFondos were sold out.
Last year, close to 1,500 riders registered for a sold-out Granfondo.
This year, the event surpassed its $30,000 fundraising target for charity, raising $41,877.04 as of Monday.
Most of that will benefit the BC Cancer Foundation, to help increase access to care and advance innovative new treatments, but donations are also being accepted for BC Lung Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, HUB cycling and MS Canada.
"Our goal is to allow a variety of charitable organizations to use the Valley GranFondo as the setting for their community fundraising goals," said.
Participants can create individual fundraising pages on the or other fundraising platforms to solicit donations.
Motorists were being advised to expect road closures and minor delays throughout 黑马磁力 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Gran Fondo long-distance road cycling originated in Italy in 1970, which roughly translates into English as "Big Ride".
Starts are done en masse, and riders of every level participate, much marathons, where most are competing against the clock instead of other participants.
