This country can design and build the fighter jets it needs, letter writer says

Dear Editor,

This is a no-brainer. Should Canada continue to buy the American F-35 fighter jets, and the answer to that is a simple no. This country needs to utilize its own resources, and its own industry to build and operate the necessary infrastructure for Canadian-made aircraft and military equipment. Canada needs to be self-sufficient in order to be able secure its own defence and reliability to parts without being dependent upon other foreign nations.

United States has set the tone for unpredictability as a reliable source to rely upon as an ally due to the current crisis that has been created by them.

Ownership even after the purchase of the F-35 has put this country into a grey area because the ownership of the software and updates to fly these jets lies in the hands of United States. United States keeps these jets in the air and controls the parts to repair them until they are in the aircraft, The inability for the Canadian military to have full possession and control of this aircraft makes this aircraft a lemon and could put the security of this nation at risk.

It is a national no-brainer. This aircraft will never belong to us nor to anyone else who may purchase it, because without the capability to have control over the system鈥檚 software and the parts availability, this aircraft no matter how good it may be, is like purchasing a valuable piece of equipment without knowing how long it will run for and the key to start it you have to keep asking for it. It is a waste of money.

Canada鈥檚 military capability must be restored and be replaced with our own military equipment and capabilities. We need to stop relying on other countries for our own security and safety, and seek our own solutions by building and advancing our national infrastructure in order to protect ourselves.

Canada has the ingenuity to make the best in terms of what this country needs and surpass any other nation if we step up to the challenge. Aircraft, ships, or anything this country needs should be Canadian-made first.

Right now this country needs aircraft, but we need reliable sources most of all and the full ownership of the flight capability from the first day to the next.

Make an aerodynamic stamp and stamp it into every part of this aircraft that we should be building, designing and flying because this country sits in the cockpit with a Canadian pilot and the Canadian flag on its tail wing. In the air or on the ground the military capabilities is us, our intelligence, our ingenuity or business sense to create and sustain military superiority for this country鈥檚 needs. We are Canadian.
