Richmond RCMP is looking for witnesses or dash-cam footage of the moments before a woman, who later died, was found in the Fraser River.
Mounties received a report of a woman in distress, yelling for help, in the Fraser River on Oct. 3, Richmond RCMP said in a news release Monday (Oct. 21). Police requested help from the Canadian Coast Guard while officers went to the area.
Officers found the woman unconscious in the river near the No. 2 Road Bridge, but she wasn't accessible from the shore.
With the help of a civilian boater, a Richmond RCMP officer was able to get to her and pull her from the river. The officer immediately started CPR as they went back to shore.
She was taken to hospital, but later died.
Richmond RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Adriana O'Malley said that while the death doesn't appear to be suspicious, police are "attempting to retrace the movements of the deceased prior to her being located in the Fraser River." RCMP is working with the BC Coroners Service on the investigation.
Through the investigation, police have found video footage of the woman walking northbound on No. 2 Road, in the direction of No. 2 Road bridge.
RCMP is asking anyone who was driving north or south on No. 2 Road bridge or along River Road and No. 2 Road on Oct. 3, between 4:45 p.m. and 5:10 p.m., to review their dash-cam footage.
Richmond RCMP has also done video canvassing of the area, but is asking any businesses in the area of No. 2 Road/Westminster Highway and Russ Baker Way/No. 2 Road bridge who have not spoken to police to contact RCMP.
