The victim of a homicide in Chilliwack Wednesday (Jan. 17) won鈥檛 be identified by police, as there is no need for the public鈥檚 help in solving the case.
Police were called to the 46600 block of Teton Avenue at 1 p.m. that afternoon, following reports of an assault. When they arrived at the home, they found one person dead and another injured.
The deceased is a 66-year-old woman. The injured person is a 37-year-old man who was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A second man, aged 67, was arrested at the home and is being charged in relation to the incident. Because of the evidence already collected on scene, and because they have chosen to protect the family鈥檚 privacy, police are not releasing the names of those involved.
鈥淭he suspect was identified and taken into custody at the scene, there is no further risk to the public,鈥� said Chilliwack RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Carmen Kiener in a press release. 鈥淭he area is currently cordoned off and we ask that the public remain out of the area as police continue to investigate this matter.鈥�
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was on scene on Wednesday and the RCMP reached out to the public immediately to stay away from the area.
鈥淚nitial evidence indicates this was an isolated incident between three family members, with no ongoing risk to the public,鈥� said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti from IHIT. 鈥淎t this time, IHIT is not releasing the name of the victim out of respect for the family鈥檚 privacy. Additionally, in consideration of the evidence collected, it is not believed that the release of the victim鈥檚 name at this stage would further the investigation in anyway.鈥�
