Roads to Simon Fraser University's Burnaby campus have reopened after an earlier police incident Thursday (July 31).

Cpl. Laura Hirst said in an email to Black Press Media that Burnaby RCMP responded to a report of a possible bomb threat at the university. Out of an abundance of caution, police closed road access to the area.

She added that through the investigation so far, "all evidence at this point leads to a 'swatting' situation." Swatting is reporting false emergencies.

The investigation is ongoing, and Hirst said police are working to identify the caller.

The roads to the campus reopened just before 2:30 p.m. Hirst added "there is believed to be no further risk to the public."

A post to social media from the university just before 1 p.m. said the roadway was closed "due to an incident affecting the university."
