PHOTOS: Fire tears through New Westminster home, displacing residents

No one injured, but home extensively damaged, assistant fire chief says

An early morning fire in New Westminster on Tuesday (Feb. 27) gutted one home and displaced its residents.

Acting Assistant Fire Chief Gord Denhoed said they were called to the blaze at 6:37 a.m. and were able to knock it down within an hour, thanks to the work of about 20 firefighters.

Their efforts weren鈥檛 enough to stop the fire from causing extensive damage to the McGillivray Place home, however. Denhoed said its residents are in care of Emergency Social Services.

One other neighbouring building was also damaged, but not as seriously. No residents or firefighters were injured.

Denhoed said they鈥檙e still working to determine what caused the blaze to spark.
