After burning for 13 days through 767 hectares, the Chehalis River wildfire is being held.

According to the latest from the B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS), the biggest local wildfire of the year of the year has been downgraded from 鈥渙ut of control鈥 to 鈥渂eing held鈥 as of Friday (June 16). This means the wildfire is not likely to spread beyond its predetermined boundaries under the current circumstances.

Cooler, wetter weather settled in throughout the week and is forecasted to continue through next week, which would possibly help the wildfire situation in the area.

The Chehalis River wildfire 鈥 about 1.3 kilometres north of Chehalis Lake 鈥 is suspected to be human-caused.

The Statlu Creek wildfire 鈥 18 kilometres northwest of Harrison Hot Springs 鈥 is under control, holding at 63 hectares. The nearby Francis Lake wildfire is being held under one hectare.

As of Friday afternoon, there are 83 active wildfires in B.C.

To report wildfires, call 1-800-663-5555 or dial *5555 on cell phones. You can also report wildfires via the BCWS mobile app.
