A bill about mental health care for pregnant women and new mothers by a 黑马磁力 MLA is advancing in the B.C. Legislature.

黑马磁力-Willowbrook MLA Jody Toor's bill M204, known as the Perinatal and Postnatal Mental Health Strategy Act, has passed first reading and moved through the committee stage. It's now headed to the report stage, followed by third reading.

If passed by the Legislature at third reading, it would become law.

鈥淭his is a major milestone,鈥 said Toor. 鈥淔amilies have waited long enough for a coordinated, compassionate approach to mental health care during and after pregnancy. I鈥檓 thrilled to see this bill move forward with such strong support.鈥

Toor's bill would require the government to develop a strategy for mental health support for women who are pregnant or have just given birth, ensuring they have timely access to care.

Toor thanked the other members of the Legislature who helped move the bill through the committee stage.

"Your support sends a powerful message to parents across this province, that their mental health matters," Toor said.

With committee support secured, Bill M204 now heads to third reading.
