An online art exhibition featuring members of the Fort Artists Group (FLAG) is open to the public until Friday, July 14.

There are nine artists taking part, said Gabrielle Strauss, who helped organize the show and is taking part herself.

The exhibition is called “Heads Up” and showcases artists’ work interpreting the theme.

“It’s quite a versatile interpretation of how everybody saw [the theme] … everybody had their own approach and vision,” Strauss said.

Being born near Vienna, Austria, art has been a part of Strauss’ life since childhood. After moving to Vancouver, she joined various art groups and pursued her dream of an artistic career.

“I enjoy colour and texture,” she said, adding that she gets her inspiration from nature.

Her work focuses on house, floral, and bird paintings and teaching mixed media and intuitive art styles.

“I like paintings to tell a story … it’s so touching how [art] touches people.”

Artwork in the Heads Up exhibit range from painted portraits and pencil sketches to sculpted hats made of porcelain.

“It was fun to see what we could come up with and it’s a good challenge to think outside the box,” Strauss said.

Aside from Strauss, other participating artists include:

- Margo Harrison

- Judy Vanderveen

- Daphne Scaman

- Alison Philpott

- Marion McCristall

- Toni King

- Robin Bandenieks

- Diane Zepeski

The exhibit can be viewed online at and are also available for purchase.

FLAG’s next in person show is the 3rd annual “Art in the Garden” show from July 22 to 23 during the Fort Jazz Festival.

The artist group has presented exhibits since 1993 in Fort , and also attend events in Township.
