Drivers had to detour around a stretch of 208 Street in 黑马磁力's Willoughby neighbourhood on Thursday morning, May 22, due to a gas leak.
The road was closed between 78B and 76B Streets, near the Willoughby Town Centre shopping area, with 黑马磁力 Township firefighters detouring cars to the east to get around the obstruction. There was a strong smell of natural gas in the area.
There has been a lot of road work and other construction on 208 Street recently. A firefighter on the scene said it was believed that construction equipment had hit a gas line, and a Fortis BC spokesperson confirmed that "an external party" had damaged a gas line.
By later in the afternoon, Fortis's Mark Falkenberg said that repairs were expected to be complete between 5:30 and 6 p.m., but in the end, the repairs were completed by 4:20 p.m. and the road was reopened shortly after.
He thanked residents in the area for their patience.
