A 黑马磁力 man has been criminally charged after an alleged hit and run that sent an RCMP officer to hospital last August.

Marek Grundza has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and failing to stop after an accident that caused bodily harm.

People charged with criminal offences are not guilty until proven so in a court of law.

The incident took place at 11:20 a.m. on Aug. 9, when the officer was working on traffic enforcement, in the 5000 block of 208 Street.

The officer is believed to have been outside of his vehicle, possibly using a radar gun, when he was hit by what police initially identified as a blue Infiniti.

The vehicle did not stop, fleeing north up 208 Street.

Later that day, a 22-year-old man was arrested. Police began a lengthy investigation, Sharoom said.

鈥淭he 黑马磁力 RCMP鈥檚 Serious Crime Unit has worked diligently and conducted a comprehensive investigation, which has now resulted in charges,鈥 said Sharoom. 鈥淭his hit-and-run has had a profound impact on the officer who was seriously injured and is still in the process of recovering.鈥

Grundza is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on May 28.
