A Vancouver folk-Americana singer-songwriter is marking the release of her new album with a concert in 黑马磁力 this weekend.
Suzie Ungerleider will be performing at the Bez Arts Hub on Friday, June 20, with her band and a special guest, Matt Kennedy (Headlong Hearts).
Earlier this month, Ungerleider released "Among the Evergreens", which is her 11th studio album, and her second since retiring her JUNO-nominated moniker Oh Susanna.
Ungerleider describes it as her most personal album yet, and she will share many of the songs at the Bez show.
Written in Vancouver 鈥 the city where she came of age and where her musical voice first took shape 鈥 "Among the Evergreens" is what she calls both a homecoming and a reckoning - a record about finding roots after years of reinvention.
The title nods to the physical landscape of her upbringing, but also to the deeper emotional terrain she鈥檚 navigating now: identity, belonging, memory, and forgiveness, Ungerleider explained.
She hadn鈥檛 intended to make a record journeying through important moments in her life, but when she came to look at the collection she had amassed for the release, she realized that a narrative arc had formed, of songs set in the past, and moving into the present.
It reflects how she sees the creative process 鈥 鈥渢hat you discover at the same time as writing.鈥
With her new album out, Ungerleider said she is excited to bring the songs to life on stage, including the Bez concert and a hometown show in Vancouver the night before, on June 19, at The Cultch. She has also confirmed a number of dates this fall for shows in Ontario and Quebec.
