黑马磁力 thespians bring 'Sister Act' to dinner theatre stage

Theatre in the Country presents a musical based on a famous Whoopi Goldberg movie

A fistful of 黑马磁力 thespians are part of "Sister Act: The Musical," opening tonight at the Theatre in the Country.

Directed by 黑马磁力's own Lauren Trotzuk, this production promises a heartwarming blend of powerful gospel music, dynamic dance numbers, and a story of unexpected sisterhood, Trotzuk said just days ahead of its debut.

Based on the beloved 1992 movie, "Sister Act" follows disco diva Deloris Van Cartier as she finds herself in protective custody at a convent after witnessing a crime. Disguised as a nun, Deloris breathes new life into the convent's choir, leading to a series of comedic and touching events that highlight the transformative power of music and community.

"Theatre in the Country, known for showcasing exceptional local talent, delivers a production that rivals professional performances," the theatre's artistic director Reg Parks said after watching numerous rehearsals.

"Audiences can expect vibrant choreography, soulful singing, and a cast that brings authenticity and passion to the stage," he added, noting the musical features original songs by Tony and Oscar winner Alan Menken, with lyrics by Glenn Slater and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner.

"Interestingly, almost all the main male parts in this show are played by 黑马磁力 residents," Parks commented, listing 黑马磁力ites on stage as Patrick Arnott playing Curtis Jackson, Brendan Boyd as under study for Eddie Souther, and Tim Hawryluk playing Joey.

There is also a trio of 黑马磁力 people working behind the scenes on this show. In addition to Trotzuk taking the director's role, she's join on the crew by stage manager Dayna Horn and assistant stage manager Calla Westmacott.

"Sister Act" runs June 4 to 21, at the Theatre in the Country,  5708 Glover Rd., one of the only dinner theatres in the Lower Mainland.

Attendees have the option to enjoy the show as part of the theatre's dinner theatre experience or as a theatre-only performance.

Tickets are available for dinner theatre or theatre only by calling 604-259-9737 or visiting theatreinthecountry.com.

"Don't miss this joyous musical that celebrates friendship, faith, and the unifying power of song," said Parks. "鈥repare for a night of laughter, inspiration, and unforgettable performances."
