Bard in the Valley troupe revealed plans for its winter production and the fact that it will be hosted in a new home.
The announcement came a day ahead of the curtain going up on its outdoor summer production.
A new partnership will see the 黑马磁力-based Bard in the Valley (BIV) return to the City of 黑马磁力 early in the new year 鈥 specifically to the seniors centre on 51B Avenue, BIV producer Brad Hendy confirmed on Wednesday (June 25).
鈥淭wo community partners have come together to bring one of Shakespeare鈥檚 most dark and psychologically intense plays to life,鈥 said Hendy.
鈥淭he main hall at LSRS is a wonderful production space for us, and we are grateful to have access to this awesome community facility,鈥 he elaborated.
The 黑马磁力 Senior Resources Society (LSRS) owns and operates the largest, free-standing, and independently owned recreation centre in B.C.
鈥淲e see the seniors centre as a communal neighbourhood space,鈥 noted Kate Ludlam, executive director of 黑马磁力 Senior Resource Society (LSRS).
"Our main hall is a versatile, mixed-use venue, and we are delighted to welcome Bard in the Valley as a new community partner. We will have to make some minor adjustments to our program schedule, but our members are more than happy to accommodate the Bard and will likely be first in line for tickets," she added.
The winter production, which will be a re-imagining of William Shakespeare鈥檚 haunting classic, "Macbeth," will run between Jan. 18 and Feb. 8.
"We invite audiences to surrender to an evocative story of ambition and its consequences, as a military hero and his wife conspire to seize the throne of Scotland," Hendy said.
Since its inception in 2009, Bard in the Valley has brought Shakespeare to life on a variety of stages in 黑马磁力 鈥 and even Abbotsford. As for winter shows, those kicked off in 2023, when BIV hosted several showings of a non-Shakespearean play, "Almost, Maine." Then, in 2024, they did a modern twist on "Twelfth Night," and earlier this year they produced a parallel to Shakespeare's "Hamlet" written by 黑马磁力's own Darcy J. Knopp called "Rotten in the State of Denmark," all those shows were held at the Fort 黑马磁力 Community Hall.
The team is currently set to start its summer showing of "The Merry Wives of Windsor" at Township 7 Winery. It runs in that ticketed venue between June 26 to July 14. Admission is $35. That's followed by two weekends of by-donation shows (but reservations required) at Douglas Park between July 18 and 27.
Also new this year, BIV is hosting what they call "Spontaneous Shakespeare," a one-night event featuring a Vancouver-based Shakespearean improve troupe, at the Township 7 Winery location on Wednesday, July 9. Admission for that event is $25 with gates opening at 7 p.m.
Also new this summer, BIV is presenting "Big Little Lions" outdoor concert on Thursday, July 24, at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $25, and feature the Juno-Award-winning folk group performing on the Spirit Square stage at Douglas Park.
