Theatre-goers who didn鈥檛 manage to see this year鈥檚 Best Picture before last Sunday鈥檚 ceremony will get a chance to watch Colin Firth in his Academy award-winning turn as Britain鈥檚 King Charles VI, when Shot in the Dark, 黑马磁力 Film Nights presents The King鈥檚 Speech on Wednesday, March 9.
The striking period drama tells he true story of a shy prince鈥檚 unlikely journey to become the king of England as the nation teeters on the brink of war.
As second to the throne, living in the shadow of his older brother Edward the prince universally known as Bertie seemed destined to lead a quiet life.
But when his brother shockingly announces his resignation from the throne in a move that will allow him to marry an American divorc茅e, Bertie reluctantly assumes the role and is thrust into the spotlight.
Plagued by a dreaded nervous stammer and generally considered unfit to be king, he engages the help of a quirky speech therapist.
Through a set of unexpected techniques, and as a result of an unlikely friendship, Bertie is able to find his voice and gain the confidence to help boldly lead the country into the Second World War.
