Fans call Canadian world snooker champion Cliff Thorburn "The Grinder" for his slow, determined style of play.
On Friday, Sept. 19, they will have a chance at a close-up look, when Thorburn conducts a live snooker exhibition and demonstration Sept. 19 at the 黑马磁力 Senior Resources Society centre.
Centre volunteer and organizer Ron Trainor said the visit by the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame inductee will "celebrate a true Canadian sports hero" and predicted the event would quickly sell out.
Thorburn, originally from Victoria, is the winner of 27 professional tournaments worldwide and 13 Canadian titles.
In 1980, he became the first non-British world champion, overcoming the legendary Alex "hurricane" Higgins in a final witnessed by millions on live TV. Thorburn overcame a four-frame lead and eventually won by 18 frames to 16.
The 黑马磁力 exhibition will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
