Supporters of 黑马磁力 Meals on Wheels filled the Glass House Estate Winery on Sunday for the first "sips of kindness" fundraiser.

A beaming Deanna Horn, board chair of the Aldergrove-based charity, called it "spectacular" as she surveyed the well-dressed crowd, there to sample a selection of premium teas, fine wines, and enjoy live music with culinary delights.
Horn opened the event to applause, when she revealed who prepared the dining experience.
"I hope you enjoy very much the food that you'll have today that is entirely prepared by 黑马磁力 Meals on Wheels," Horn said. "Isn't that amazing?"
Called The Gathering: Sips of Kindness, the high tea aimed to bring together community members, supporters, and businesses to help MOW continue its mission of providing nutritious meals, social connection, and essential services to those who need it most, Horn said.
"Boy, have we knocked it out of the park with all these beautiful people in the room," Horn told the 黑马磁力.
"First event, and we completely sold out."
As of Monday, the event has raised $114,000, more than double its hoped-for $50,000, and donations were still coming in.
"We are so very, very pleased," Horn said.
One large donation came in the day after.
"We got an email from someone who had seen the event on social media, and , and has an a neighbour that's not doing well with nourishment," Horn described.
"We were doing a promotion at the event [to] feed a senior for a month. And this lady bought her neighbour one year of meals, which is about $3,600 but she actually donated $4,000."
