As many as 900 people took part in the annual ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Walk held Sunday in Willoughby. Dan Ferguson ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Times

Ideal weather conditions, sunny and warm, produced a good turnout for the annual ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Walk on Sunday afternoon.

According to the official estimate, close to 900 people took part in the annual walk, with some starting before the official 1:30 p.m. time and others who came late.

The ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Walk was established by Pete Swensson, the Township of ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦â€™s first Recreation Director, to encourage residents to be more physically active, and has been held in various neighbourhoods throughout ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Township and City since 1963.

This time, the place for the free event was the at 7888 200 Street, where people were able to walk, run, or bike the 5 km and 10 km routes, then enjoy a free snack, more activities, and entertainment that included activities like balloon twisting, a bouncy castle and face painting.

Trophies and prizes were awarded in several categories:

Most walkers from an elementary school – R.C. Garnett

Most walkers from a middle school – Yorkson Creek

Most walkers from a secondary school – Walnut Grove

Most walkers from an organization – ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ Immanuel Christian Reformed Church

Most walkers from a family – The Humberstones

Oldest walker – Inta Schorcht (87)
