Seniors are invited to stop by the Aldergrove Veterans' and Seniors Society during Seniors Week to learn about the local organization.

Representatives of the society will be at the Aldergrove Community Seniors Fair on Monday, June 2, at the Royal Canadian Legion Aldergrove branch. The rest of the week is a Seniors Week open house. The coffee's is on and there are typically several people around to play board games with at the centre at 27247 Fraser Hwy.

"Come in and, meet us, and see what we do there," said president Rea Coates.

The centre is open from about 10:30 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. but the hours aren't written in stone as the members may stay a bit longer depending on how long their games run. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. with a menu that changes weekly. The society wants to be able to provide local seniors with a nutritious hot meal. About 80 meals are prepared each week.

The centre has about 90 members and many will often bust out the games.

"We play card bingo twice a week, and we have bingo and we have Mexican Train dominoes," she said. "Mexican Train Dominoes is getting really popular."

People of any age can stop by the centre to check out the ongoing garage sale, which helps bring in funds for the society.

The society was founded in 1980 by a group of veterans who wanted a place to spend time with family and friends, enjoy a meal, and socialize. It expanded in the 1990s to include seniors.
