People attending RibFest 黑马磁力 have new methods of transportation to bypass the snarl of cars and trucks at the popular event.
The five organizing Rotary club of 黑马磁力 have rolled out a bike valet service to make it easier for people to attend.
People can leave their cars at home, and use other types of vehicles, including mobility vehicles, bikes, e-bikes,
scooters, skateboards, and other (non-gas powered) locomotion.
鈥淩ibFest 黑马磁力 has become an incredibly popular event for people of all ages and this is an important step in our evolution,鈥� said Rick Davis, co-chair of the event. 鈥淲e are excited about this new partnership and the opportunity to improve and promote biking options for a growing number of our attendees.鈥�
The free service is possible because of a $9,000 grant to provide a valet option. Those using the service can leave their bikes, e-bikes and more in a secure staffed area, and the service will be available throughout the festival that runs Friday, Aug. 15 to Sunday, Aug. 17 at McLeod Athletic Park.
鈥淭he BC Cycling Coalition is thrilled to help bring this service to RibFest 黑马磁力 with the support of the Ministry of Transportation and Transit,鈥� said Jen Petersen, executive director. 鈥淲hether you're commuting, shopping, or attending local events, you can count on safe and reliable bike parking.鈥�
The grant is funded by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MoTT) and delivered by BCCC, as part of a province-wide push to support active transportation in communities across British Columbia.
RibFest runs 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 8p.m. on Sunday. In addition to the barbecue competition among top grillmasters, there is three full days of entertainment, a kidz zone, Rotary 50/50 Mega Draw ticket sales, site-wide adult beverage service, and more. All proceeds from the event go to charity.
