Family-friendly movies, bubble parties, and free yoga are just some of the activities this summer at a local mall.
Willowbrook Shopping Centre, 19705 Fraser Hwy., is turning its outdoor courtyard into a weekly summer destination with free programming from June 27 to Aug. 29.
"Willowbrook has always been at the heart of the ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦ community, and we want to continue providing a space where people can gather, have fun with friends, and enjoy free interactive events," said Nicole Lotz, marketing manager "Our goal is to create a welcoming hub that offers not only shopping and dining, but also a place to relax and unwind."
Every week, Summer in the Courtyard offers family-friendly fun to ºÚÂí´ÅÁ¦.
• Monday Funday (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.): The activities range from splash zones and chalk art to bubble parties and yard games.
The courtyard has the splash zone, with a built-in water system that will provide families with a place to cool down on hot days – unless there are weather and water restrictions in place.
• Wednesday Yoga (11 a.m. to 12 p.m.): Free outdoor sessions led by Evolution Studios. People should bring a mat to the free sessions every Wednesday. This is open to all skill levels.
• Friday Movie Nights (6 to 8 p.m.): Family-friendly screenings will be held under the stars. People can bring a blanket or a chair.

"This is our third year offering our Summer in the Courtyard event series," Lotz said. "Public feedback on these events has been overwhelmingly positive, with many guests expressing their appreciation for the variety of activities offered. Families, in particular, have praised the free entertainment, as it provides a fun, accessible way to spend time together. Overall, the community has shown great enthusiasm and support for these events."
Attendance varied by event, with weather often influencing turnout. For example, yoga sessions attracted around 20 to 30 attendees, while movie nights drew crowds of 200 to 300 people, she explained.
