The parking lot of the Aldergrove legion branch will be full of classic and vintage vehicles Sunday, July 13 for the Old Fart Car Club Fight Against Cancer Car Show.
The event was created to honour the memory of club member Godfrey Hamon who died of cancer in early 2018.
"This year the show is on his birthday," noted Lori Chapman, one of the organizers. "It means a lot more that it's on his birthday, and we miss him terribly."
There's been a fundraiser annually since 2018, with the event turning into cruising during the pandemic to keep people safe and returning to the show format in recent years.
There will be tunes from the 1950s and '60s played through the event as well as a food, and more. New this year will be a booth of apparel that's part of the F*CK Cancer campaign. The club will also have swag available to help raise more money.
Since the shows started, the club has raised almost $50,000, she said.
There will also be representatives from other car clubs, prizes, raffles, and draws as the event works to raise money for families impacted by cancer, this year selecting two local children with the disease.
The show is at 26607 Fraser Hwy. There is no advance registration. Vehicle owners sign up on the date of the event starting at 8 a.m. The public can attend as early as 8 a.m., and the show runs until 3 p.m. Learn more at ofcc.ca or on the club's Facebook page.
The public is asked to park in the streets around the legion as its parking lot will be taken up with the approximately 130 registered vehicles. It's an open show so people can expect to see a diverse array of vehicles. Chapman said up to 600 spectators typically attend.
