VIDEO: Ideal weather for Brookswood Community Car Show

Record turnout for annual 黑马磁力 school fundraiser

It was perfect weather, sunny and warm for the Brookswood Community Car Show and it drew more than 300 vehicles, a record for the event, to fill the school playing field on Sunday, May 25.

Initial estimates placed the amount raised for the school at more than $10,000, but the tally wasn't finished.

Organizer Scott Strudwick called it "fantastic."

"Last year we got rained out unfortunately, but this year it's perfect,鈥 Strudwick remarked, as he watched vehicles arrive.
鈥淲e've got a ton of them rolling in. We're backed up down the street. So I think we're going to fill this lot.鈥

Initial estimates placed the amount raised for the school at more than $10,000, but the tally wasn't finished.

One attention-getter was a truck with a Toy Story theme, including collectibles and a real-life Woody, Kevin from Surrey, who dressed up as the animated character from the Pixar movie.

鈥淚t's quite fun,鈥 Kevin commented.

Dave Wormald from Fort 黑马磁力 brought his immaculate, just-acquired  鈥63 Nova.

"It's had a repaint and it's the SS model,鈥 Wormald summarized. 鈥淭wo-speed turbo glide. It's got the 194 straight six, 120 horse.鈥

Walnut Grove resident Pat Nash was showing his 1968 Hemi Barracuda.

"It's not an original,鈥 Nash cautioned. 鈥淚t's  what they call a duplicate or a copy of the original. Basically the setup under the hood is exactly the way they came from the factory."

Chrysler built approximately 70 of the original Hemi Barracudas and 70 Hemi Darts in 1968.

"You could take this to the track, put some slicks on it, put some headers on it, and you could turn 10 and a half second quarter miles with it right out of the box.鈥

Nash built the car in 2005, and doesn't take it out much.

"I go to the odd show maybe once or twice a year," Nash said. "I enjoy the car a lot. My kids like driving it once in a while. They take it out, but it gets lousy mileage."

Jim McGregor brought his customized yellow 1949 Ford pickup truck, which happens to be the same age as the retired fire chief, who has been MC of another car show, Aldergrove's Cruise-In, for more than a decade.

鈥淧eople call this an old truck,鈥 McGregor laughed.

鈥淭hey say, hey, how old is your truck? And I say, well, it's the same age as me. We were both built in '49, so it's not an old truck, it鈥檚 an experienced truck.鈥
