CRUISE-IN: Meet the board steering Canada鈥檚 largest charity car show

Longtime and familiar volunteers plan annual event

While the 黑马磁力 Good Times Cruise-In dazzles people with polished cars, what most don’t see is the dedicated team of volunteers who work year-round to make it all happen.

Months of planning goes into every detail, and behind the scenes are a team of volunteer directors.

In turn, they are supported by hundreds of community members who help ensure that the event runs seamlessly, Cruise-In president Riccardo Sestito noted.

The board is a mix of longtime leaders and newer recruits, striking a balance between tradition and fresh ideas.

Sestito, for instance, has been involved “since the beginning,” first attending the show back in 1997.

Through the years, he’s worn just about every hat possible, including treasurer, vice president, and president multiple times.

“I didn't like being treasurer because I was called Mr. No Fun,” joked Sestito.

This year’s vice president, Braden Ulvild, represents the next generation of leadership.

Growing up with the event, Ulvild saw both his parents serve on the board in the 2000s. He officially joined as a director in 2023.

Now, he carries on his family’s legacy while bringing new energy, ideas, and his passion for cars to the organization.

Marty Brown, who took on the role of president in 2024, has been involved since 2012. He's a self-described “old vehicle fanatic.”

Brown's bio stated that what he values most are the friendships he’s built, plus the chance to give back to the community.

Longtime director Wayne Patterson has been tied to the Cruise-In since its early days, first supplying equipment in 1997.

He joined the board in 2006 and served as president from 2015 to 2019.

Even after moving to the B.C. Interior, Patterson still returned each year because he's motivated by the chance to support local charities.

Sponsorships are a cornerstone of the Cruise-In’s charitable work and that responsibility falls to board member Brianne Kindzersky.

Through the years, she helped in multiple ways. From youth judging to serving coffee, Kindzersky stepped up into a board position to lead partnerships.

Together, these board members coordinate hundreds of volunteers who collectively put in thousands of hours each year.

Their work goes far beyond cars and logistics; it’s about making a direct impact on local charities, said Sestito.

For him, that sense of service is just as important as the love of classic cars.

“I’ve done other shows in the past," he said, listing off a long list of various groups he's participated with.

His decades of involvement with Cruise-In, however, reflects both a passion for the hobby and his deep commitment to community.

This is one of the reasons why the Cruise-In has remained a highlight of 黑马磁力’s calendar, he said. Most people, from car exhibitors to spectator, and from volunteers to sponsors, feel the same way.
