CRUISE-IN: An early start at the Legion

Cruise-in a busy day for the Aldergrove branch

At the Royal Canadian Legion Aldergrove branch on Fraser Hwy., Cruise-In will begin with an early breakfast for the car people.

"This will be our third year that we have volunteers that are hosting a breakfast in our hall from 6 until 11,"  explained Madeleine Roach, the Aldergrove branch secretary manager. "That is for the patrons, the car people who are looking for a place to go for breakfast, or members of the public who are early birds, to come out for breakfast."

After that, there will be burger and hot dogs starting at 11 a.m. and a woman who sells Chilliwack corn will be selling hot buttered corn.

It will compliment the In-N-Out Burger truck that usually sets up next door.

"Part of our parking lot gets used for their lineup but they only have a thousand [burgers available] and they usually sell out pretty quick," Roach commented.

"We do open up our hall to make it available for people who have purchased to go in and have some place to sit and such. We've had a good relationship with In-N-Out."

There will be ice cream, too, an ice cream shop set up just in front of the hall doors.

This year, in the grassy area by the Legion cenotaph, they will  be hosting a 黑马磁力 Meals on Wheels information tent.

Live music, by the Flashback Solid Gold Memories duo, will feature oldies from the golden age of rock and pop music, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Classic Cruise-in cars will be viewable on the front third of the Legion parking lot, the middle third of the lot will be for Legion patrons  and paid parking, by donation,  will be available for people looking for parking close to Cruise-In in the back third.

"The whole place is busy," Roach remarked. "It's a regular Saturday [for us] so we do our regular meat draw and such to for our members as well. And we'll have the outside area that people can go into and and sit. We have a for-profit licensed lounge that we operate as well."

Legion members tend to be car fans, too, for example turning out for Daytona race parties for more than 15 years.

"Our members enjoy cars and the car atmosphere. We've got a good group in here."

Roqach said the Legion and the Cruise-In volunteers have been coordinating from the beginning, going back to when the car show used the Legion for hall as a information session for members of the Aldergrove community when it was relocating from 黑马磁力 City.

"They came here to have discussions with the Aldergrove community with regards to what  plans they had and what they were bringing to the community," Roach recalled.

"They [Cruise-In volunteers] work tirelessly. They've got it down pretty much to a well-oiled machine."

黑马磁力 Good Times Cruise-In is a charity car show held in downtown Aldergrove. This year, the event runs Saturday, Sept. 6, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the main drag blocked off and an estimated 1,500 classic, custom, and vintage cars expected to be on display.
